CROOK INN, TWEEDSMUIR, SCOTTISH BORDERS. A piece of good news in this long-running saga in which a developer wants to convert it to residential use. The council has rejected an appeal by the developer to allow the plans and insists on efforts to market the building as pub. Of course, there is a long way to go yet and it remains to be seen if the local community can get together the funds it needs to buy it at a mutually acceptable price (which is what they want to do). For more info see www.savethecrook.org.uk CROCKER’S FOLLY, LONDON NW8. After being closed for about three years, this magnificent pub is being turned into a Lebanese restaurant. This comes as a real blow since I was aware of two parties who were considering purchasing it to run as a pub. HOLLY BUSH, HINCKLEY, LEICS. A similar story. After a long period of closure, this is now being turned into an Indian restaurant. Sad to lose it as a pub but at least this Art Deco building has a future. The council’s conservation officer tells me that the interior is not being altered, the roof leaks have been fixed and that the black paint that was sploshed on the external green tiling has been removed. THREE HORSESHOES, BOROUGHBRIDGE, N. YORKS. Dave Gamston tells me it’s up for sale – advertised at £550,000. Apparently this is for personal reasons rather than anything to do with trading levels. ALBION, CONWY, N. WALES. Karen and Baz Deacon, from a recent visit to Conwy, report that the Albion appeared to have closed. HOLLY BUSH, BOLLINGTON, CHESHIRE. No more news about this pub being turned into a restaurant (Feb. bulletin) – I’d appreciate an update if anyone has one. OLDE WHITE BEARE, NORWOOD GREEN, HALIFAX W. YORKS. Just to clarify – Pub Heritage Group have decided to wait a little longer before adding this pub to Part Two of the NI (for its snug) to give as many members of the group as possible a chance to assess it. Unless there are dissenting voices it will go on later in the year (I’ll advise when). RUTHERFORD’S, EDINBURGH. For the sake of clarity this c.1960 interior is still on the NI pending information that it has been destroyed. News (?)welcome. ‘BEER’ ARTICLES. This month’s heritage pub feature in ‘Beer’ will focus on the Three Horseshoes, Warham, Norfolk. I have made an index of these ‘Beer’ features (which stretch back to Aug. 2001). I’ll email it to anyone on request.
