Owners are the Maroush chain of Lebanese restaurants, and I spoke to them. Their idea was to retain, and refurbish, the bar area - create an upmarket restaurant in the left hand section - and a boutique hotel on the upper floors. The plans have been rejected by Westminster City Council, apparently, and the building will shortly be up for sale again. If their plans were as explained to me then it would have preserved the entire building and, most important, the classic bar area. Not to be - so we must await developments (or not)!’
