CHANGES TO THE National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors – agreed at Pub Heritage Group meeting in London 8 November DELETE. DUN COW, BILLY ROW, DURHAM. Closed. HOLLY BUSH, HINCKLEY, LEICS. Becoming/has become an Indian restaurant (but retaining the simple Art Deco interior). NOOK, LIVERPOOL. Interior renewal. PEYTON ARMS, STOKE LYNE, OXON. Re-evaluation. This has long been on the National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors but there has also been doubt for some time about its historic authenticity. The local information now suggests (rather what the visual evidence supports) that it took its present appearance after having been taken over by Hook Norton from the Peyton estate in 1954. ADDITION TO PART ONE. COACHMAKERS ARMS, LICHFIELD STREET, HANLEY ST1 3EA. ADDITIONS TO PART TWO. OLDE TAVERN, 22 VICTORIA STREET, KINGTON, HEREFS HR5 3BX.. For its unspoilt left-hand room. This is a GBG pub VIPER, MILL GREEN ROAD, MILL GREEN CM4 0PT. Transferred to Part Two from Part One. there has been a good deal of post-War change which, it was felt, bars it from Part One, but the panelled snug (2nd room from left) is special enough to warrant Part Two. CURRENTLY CLOSED: STUMBLE INN, SHEFFIELD; PEACOCK, RUGBY DOLPHIN, MARE STREET, HACKNEY, LONDON E8. Having been closed down because of late night noise complaints, it appears these issues have been resolved though there is no positive info that the pub has reopened. Well, there you are! The tiles are good though. HISTORIC PUBS - WANT TO HELP? I attach a couple of sheets that you may find helpful. They were prepared originally by Mick Slaughter for GBBF. One tells you a bit more about the criteria for assessment – at the end of the day this is all about histoirc authenticity and importance. We often get nominations from members for great pubs in old buildings but the guts have been turned over. Nice places they may be but that’s a different project from the National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors/RIs The other sheet tells you a little about how you can get more involved and help save our precious historic pubs. The keeper of the Regional Inventories is Mick Slaughter who would always be pleased to hear from you about possible candidates in your area (or elsewhere for that matter). He be keen to hear where members of this circle live as it is good to know where we have eyes and ears. His address is: m.slaughter45@ntlworld.com Geoff
