CHANGES TO THE National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors. There was review meeting of CAMRA’s Pub Heritage Group on 21 Feb and the following changes were agreed: ADDITIONS TO PART 1: OLD SHIP, High Street, AVELEY, (just inside) ESSEX RM15 4AD. Victorian corner pub with separate rooms/screens, good glass. No real ale. PRINCE OF WALES, Prince Crescent, CORSE, Staunton, Glos GL19 3F. Almost completely intact 1953 refit by the Stroud Brewery in 1953. ADDITIONS TO PART 2: MALT SHOVEL, Potter Street, SPONDON, Derbys DE21 7LH. For its snugs. QUEEN’S HEAD, TOLLESHUNT D’ARCY, Essex CM9 8TF. For wonderfully unspoilt left-hand public bar. RED LION, KENNINGHALL, Norfolf NR16 2EP. For superb wooden screening round 2 sides of a drinking. See p. 24 of CAMRA’s East Anglia Regional Inventory. BARONY BAR, EDINBURGH, 81-3 Broughton Street. 0131 558 2874. For fine array of tiles, mirrors and other fittings. See p. 40 of Scotland’s True Heritage Pubs. DELETIONS: WHITE HORSE, PRIOR’S DEAN, Hants. Excellent, persistent research by Chris Witt has shown that the right-hand bar and other work is a creation of the 1960s. THREE HORSEHOES, WARHAM, Norfolk. Research shows that much of what we see was created in the 1960s. The third room, for instance, is a former shop and has been fitted up with reclaimed items. RUTHERFORD’S, EDINBURGH. The distinctive 1960s fittings etc have been stripped out and it’s now a restaurant. CROOK INN, TWEEDSMUIR, Scottish Borders. After an inquiry into the owner’s development proposals, the Government Reporter (= planning inspector) has dismissed the appeal by the owners re refusal of planning permission. It is now hoped the local community in the form of the Tweddsmuir Community Company will be able to exercise their right to buy the premises. OLD RED LION, KENNINGTON, LONDON. Jane Jephcote reports that Punch are selling the lease. Maybe one to watch. For anyone who doesn’t know it is splendidly intact, small Tudor revival job of c.1930 NAGS’ HEAD, BISHOP’S STORTFORD.
