SUN INN, LEINTWARDINE, HEREFS. Top billing in this bulletin, of course, goes to this great unspoilt ‘parlour pub’ following the death of long-serving licensee, Flossie Lane. The up-to-the-minute story is reported by Mark Haslam, as follows: ‘The Sun Inn was due to be auctioned on Thursday, 27 August. However, following a serious offer by a locally-based consortium which is seeking to run the Sun Inn as a pub, the auction has been postponed - with no rescheduled date being advised. ‘Herefordshire CAMRA are confident that the local consortium has the financial and technical wherewithal to put the premises on a long term sustainable footing, and hopes to meet with them in the near future. I believes that there is no doubt that the owners are sincere when they say that they would like to see the Sun Inn continue in some form as a pub. It also has strong support in the community. We now need to be patient. ‘However, we mustn't be complacent, just in case things don't work out > and Mark is asking people to sign up to the campaign to save the pub at: www.savethesun.org.uk’. BERKELEY ARMS, PURTON, GLOS. Mike Jackson says that this pub is currently closed due to the landlord’s illness. Further news awaited with interest. CROOK INN, TWEEDSMUIR, SCOTTISH BORDERS. Copied from a BBC News website. ‘Plans to reopen one of the oldest pubs in Scotland are set to be unveiled. An application is being lodged with Scottish Borders Council for the scheme at the Crook Inn in Tweedsmuir, which was first licensed in 1604. Owner James Doonan has previously tried to get permission to convert the historic property into flats. However, he said the strength of local opposition had persuaded him to try to include reopening the famous pub as part of a set of revised plans. Earlier this year the Scottish Government rejected a scheme to turn the historic inn into a residential development. Prior to that local residents had formed a community company with the goal of buying and reopening the premises as a pub. Now Mr Doonan has modified his plans for the site to accommodate the revival of the inn alongside residential properties. He said: "I have been impressed with the energy and commitment that has been demonstrated in the recent campaign to save the Crook Inn. And I am keen to give the Tweedsmuir Community Company the opportunity to secure its future. As a local resident myself I will be pleased if we can all work together to make it happen.’ TUCKERS GRAVE, FALKLAND, SOMERSET. Iain Loe of CAMRA HQ reports that it is up for sale with a price tag of £575,000. APOLOGY – I titled the last bulletin as no 79 whereas it should have been 78.
