SUN, LEINTWARDINE, HEREFS. Mark Haslam reports the following very encouraging news: ‘The offer by the locally-based consortium has been accepted by the owning family. Matters are now in hand, and it is hoped that the new ownership will be confirmed by the end of September. I recently had a meeting with the consortium, and I am very reassured by their plans. They have no intention of doing anything untoward with the front two rooms, and have some sensible plans to put the pub on a long-term sustainable footing. We have arranged another meeting with them, and they are very keen to work closely with CAMRA. They do not wish to jeopardise their NI status, and see CAMRA's involvment in any plans as being key.’ WHITE LION, BURY. To avoid any confusion, this pub was added at one point to the website NI listing but has now be voted of Regional Inventory standard, rather than National, by CAMRA’s Pub Heritage Group. VIADUCT TAVERN, 126 Newgate Street, London EC1A 7AA. I seem to have missed advising that this is on Part Two of the NI for its spectacular, mirrors, painted panels, woodwork etc. PEACOCK, RUGBY. Mick Slaughter brings the sad news that the Peacock is that it is about to reopen as the Peacock Bar and Korean & Thai Restaurant. He writes: ‘From a look through the windows I can see that the Victorian bar back remains intact; the Victorian bar counter is still there but appears to have been shortened by up to 3 feet; and the terrazzo floor exposed. The room had already absorbed the off sales, also fixed benches were removed in c.2000. The left-hand room has lost its c.1960 bar counter so is now devoid of any old fittings. The partitioned reception still remains in the hall and former hatch now appears to be a new doorway to the public bar situated under the penultimate section of the bar back. Unable to see into the rear room which was two rooms and did house a full-sized snooker table but no fixed seating. This pub still warrants a position on our inventories but probably more regional than national now.’ CASTLE, MACCLESFIELD, CHES. This pub has recently gone on sale. Geoff
